Welcome to English 126- Introduction to Literature


This course provides an intensive practice at an advanced level of oral and written communication skills. This course also combines intensive reading with critical analysis of representative works, responding to different types of writing styles such as: argumentative and persuasive. Students will be required to carry out a research project on a current issue. The course requires the integration of technological devices in the production of written texts, critical analysis, and presentations. Pre-requisite: ENGL 125

Course Objectives:

Students will


  1. demonstrate critical and reflective analysis of a variety of interdisciplinary fictional texts.
  2. evaluate the relevance of the information in fictional texts by making connections through research projects
  3. examine critically the aesthetic, ethical and cultural values of aspects presented in the thematic units of instructions and make connections to their personal, social and cultural reality.
  4. apply communication skills through oral presentations related to readings and class discussions integrating the use of technology.
  5. write focusing on critical analysis of the themes including narrative, argumentative and persuasive writing by expressing their ideas with clarity, coherence, and unity at a proficient level through task- based learning experiences
